Plastics demand increased by 4,5% in 2010

Demand from European converters increased by 4.5% from 2009 to 46.4 million tonnes in

2010 – according to “Plastics – The Facts 2011”, a brochure recently published by PlasticsEurope, in co-operation with EuPC, EuPR and EPRO.

Packaging remains the largest segment of plastics consumption, representing 39% of the overall demand in 2010 (40,1% in 2009). The packaging sector is followed by building & construction (20.6%), automotive (7.5%) and electrical & electronic equipment (5.6%). The figure illustrates the European demand by segments, indicating the main polymers used.
